Fourth grade is a year of deeper thinking, greater independence, and expanding responsibility. Students are ready to move beyond simply learning information and begin using what they know to analyze, create, and solve problems.

Fourth grade is a year of deeper thinking, greater independence, and expanding responsibility. Students are ready to move beyond simply learning information and begin using what they know to analyze, create, and solve problems.
Students work with increasingly complex texts and develop stronger reading, writing, and communication skills. In math, students build on their understanding of place value and operations while exploring fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement, and problem-solving.Science and social studies provide opportunities for students to investigate ideas, examine evidence, understand different perspectives, and make connections across subjects.
Fourth graders will take on more responsibility for organizing their work, managing materials and time, collaborating with classmates, and communicating their ideas.Students will also have opportunities to use technology as a tool for creating, researching, communicating, and demonstrating their learning—not simply as a place to complete assignments.
Fourth grade students are learning to become more intentional thinkers and creators. We encourage them to ask thoughtful questions, use evidence, take intellectual risks, and learn from mistakes.
