The main goal of the English Language Arts program is to teach students English language literacy skills. These skills are primarily expressed in the ability to effectively read, write, listen and speak. The Reading Specialist support classroom teachers in implementing the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Mrs. Parrish is beginning her eighth year as a reading specialist at Tuckahoe Elementary School. Before becoming a reading specialist, she taught 1st and 2nd grade. Mrs. Parrish loves helping students become successful, confident readers and find joy in reading! Mrs. Parrish is a proud Wahoo, having earned her undergraduate degree, Master’s degree, and reading specialist certification from the University of Virginia. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, playing tennis, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Parrish is excited for a great year at Tuckahoe!

Ms. O is starting her 3rd year at Tuckahoe, and her 2nd year as a reading specialist. She enjoys supporting students as they become strong readers, and is honored to support the wonderful teachers here at Tuckahoe as well. When not in school, Ms. O spends her time taking photos, reading good books, and hanging with her 3 teenage kids. She's looking forward to another great year!
